Martín Andrés Markovits

Martin is the director, producer and co-writer of Tupamaro: Urban Guerrillas (2017). He's also an experienced broadcaster, newspaper and radio reporter, national and international political correspondent,  as well as a media consultant.  He's based in Los Angeles.

Biography

Martin is an award-winning writer, director, producer and multi-media reporter.  For a decade, he worked as a freelance journalist throughout Latin America for publications such as the San Francisco Chronicle, The New Statesman, and Huffington Post.  He has produced radio and video features for NBC, ABC-Univision, Fusion, Free Speech Radio, News Network and PBS News Hour. He was also the Mexico and Venezuela correspondent for CGTN America. He has reported extensively in Venezuela, covering the Hugo Chavez presidency, politics and culture. Martin graduated with a master's degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia University.  He is the director, producer and co-writer of Tupamaro: Urban Guerrillas (2017)  a feature length documentary about leftist vigilantes tied to Hugo Chavez that patrol the streets of Caracas, fighting gangsters, government forces, and even themselves.  It won Best Feature Film and Best Foreign Film at the 2017 Beverly Hills Film Festival, Best Documentary Feature at the 2017 UK Film Festival, and seven other awards.  He is currently a correspondent for the broadcaster TRT World.  Martin is a Los Angeles native and lives there still with his family.  See the MEDIA section for samples of recent work.
